The Mangrove Initiative at the IUCN World Conservation Congress (IUCN, 2021)

Very present at the IUCN congress, the Mangrove Initiative presented different results during three events:

1. SESSION THEMATIC SESSION Global pressures on mangroves and their communities : solutions from conservation and restoration

This session provided an overview of the co-benefits of mangrove conservation, their threats, and potential challenges and solutions from practices around the world in three thematic components (communities and sustainable use, conservation and restoration, and governance). See the presentations of the FFEM initiative

2. LAUNCH OF TWO EDUCATIONAL BOOKS PRODUCED IN COLLABORATION WITH OCÉANOPOLIS

It is essential today that future generations mobilize and acquire the necessary skills to implement actions allowing the survival of essential ecosystems such as mangroves. These books are intended for Non Governmental Organizations which act daily on the field, for students and young professionals, for managers of protected areas, for teachers of the involved territories and for communities. The last part highlights the jobs and skills necessary for the survival and preservation of mangroves.

3. INTERVENTION BY JANIQUE ETIENNE (FFEM) in the session on nature-based solutions at the Ocean Pavilion
